Cheer team, spirit line divide
Advertising
Sports have recently been making their latest changes to prepare for next year, including Cheer and Spirit Line.

Cheer is going to remain as one large team cheering at all of the home football games as well as any away games. This team will be including Freshman, JV and Varsity. Cheer will be competing from November to April with regional, state and national competitions.

The differences between cheer and spirit line will be split amongst their competitions as well. Cheer is competing all year with local regional competitions, two state competitions and ending their season with nationals in California.

Spirit line is going to be separate from the cheer team, cheering as a pom team at all of the varsity home basketball games. They will be given the option to compete at the AIA State Qualifier and State Competition as a pom division, but will not be in any other type of competitions.

The division of each team is going to create new changes within the cheer program.

“The biggest change is the elimination of JV team and how that can affect girls trying out, but the addition of a pom team is opening our program up to many more athletes on campus,” said Cheer Coach DeMott.

The ideas for cheer and spirit line are going to cater to the different types of athletes.

“Cheer is for the athlete that wants to be more competitive [as well as] tumbling, stunting and cheering at games. Spirit line is for the athlete that is more focused on dance and might not want to make the competitive or time commitment that cheer asks for,” said DeMott.

Both cheer and spirit line are expected to be seen at assemblies throughout the year.
