Insidious was one of the most terrifying movies I have ever seen.  It was directed by James Wan who has a track record of directing very scary movies (Dead Silence, Saw series, and Death Sentence).  It starred Patrick Wilson (Watchmen, A-Team), and Rose Byrne (28 Weeks Later, Troy, Get him to the Greek).  It received 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which is extremely good for being a horror film.  The movie made $13,496,000 and drew in all types of audiences.
Insidious is about a family of five: a husband, a wife, and three children.  They just moved into a new house only to discover that that house is haunted (unoriginal, yes, but it gets better).  Their son, Dalton, decides to explore the house and go into the dark and mysterious attic only to fall and hit his head on the floor.  He falls into a coma that the doctors can’t explain because he did not hit his head hard enough to induce a coma.  After three months, Dalton is moved back to the house even though he is still in a coma.  Since Dalton’s return, strange things begin to happened. Convinced that the house is haunted, the mother, Renai, begs for another move.
The husband, Josh, reluctantly agrees, but the same hallucinations and noises reoccur in the new house.  After many bizarre and increasingly violent experiences, Josh’s mother contacts a friend of hers, Elise, who deals with paranormal activity.  Elise explains to them Dalton has the ability to astral project. This means that he can wander around the parallel spirit world, also known as “the further,” and interact with the darker souls (demons). He does this in his sleep, and he thinks they are just dreams.  Josh’s mother then explains that Josh also has that ability and that’s where Dalton got it from.  They conclude that Josh must astral project and find his son to bring him back.  When Josh goes into this other dimension, that’s when things get incredibly creepy.
This movie was the scariest movie I have ever seen in theatres.  Every scene was chilling and absorbed the audience into it.  In most scary movies, there are at least a couple obnoxious teens.  In this one, the whole room was silent.  The movie starts out as the typical teen scream.  It had several jumpy parts and suspenseful moments.  Toward the end of the movie, it pushed the limits and became an original horror film.  With many disturbing images, you can’t help but see those images haunting your sleep.  I warn the people reading this, watch this movie at your own risk.
