Fallout 3 is a first person role playing game in a world destroyed by nuclear war. The player is an inhabitant in Vault 101, a survival shelter for a small number of people. After the player’s father disappears from the vault, the player must leave to find him and learn to survive in the Capital Wasteland, which is what Washington D.C. has become after the nuclear war. Along the way, the player will encounter creatures affected by the radiation and survivors who will help with the player’s tasks.

Fallout 3 is a very unique game; it very successfully combines elements from first person action shooters with a role playing games. The game is created by Bethesda Softworks, the company responsible for the popular Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Like Oblivion, Fallout 3 take place in an open world and gives the player countless things to do. Whether you are discovering new locations, completing quests in the main story, or doing side missions, Fallout 3 will keep you busy for countless hours.

One of the most notable things about this game, and one of the coolest is the VATS system, in which real time combat is paused and the player chooses a part of the enemy’s body to aim for. Each body part has a percentage that shows your probability of a successful hit. When you have leveled up and gotten a certain perk, the enemy explodes into blood and guts. Also there is a perk called mysterious stranger, where in VATS. Occasionally, a man in a long trench coat and a fedora hat will appear with a .44 Magnum and kill your enemy.

All in all, Fallout 3 is an amazing game. I cannot praise this game enough. Anybody who liked Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or likes first person shooters and role playing games should buy this game. I’m not sure if it will be something everybody will love, but even if it doesn’t interest you give it a chance. You will be blown away.
