The Varsity Football Team has shown that they have love for the game. For the past two months the boys have been practicing for several hours everyday and working their hardest to achieve their goals. This work has been paying off and the Wildcats are 3-1 beating Mynderse 48-0, Red Jacket 57-0, and Clyde Savanna 52-41. However, they lost to Dundee 53-14, but recently beat Lyons 42-0.

Friday, September 19th, the team walked out on the field determined to blow Clyde away. At the beginning of the game, Tyler Stell started off with a 22 yard reverse and Jared Lyons took the touchdown. Jamie Murphy made the field goal and added on another point. However, Clyde came back with a major pass over everyone and took a touchdown. They also made their field goal and tied up the score 7-7. This made Clyde Savanna the first team this season to score against the Wildcats. As the game went on, Jamie Murphy had a 53 yard carry and scored a touchdown. He also kicked a flawless field goal to make the score 14-7. Once this occurred, it was a race to the finish. Clyde scored another touchdown but didn’t complete the field goal making the score 14-13. However, Murphy had a 72 yard touchdown and Tyler Stell tacked on the two point conversion with a nice catch in the end zone.

Before halftime, Jeff Clark made a 62 yard touchdown and Jordan Hathorn made a complete pass to Clark winning two extra points. This upped the score 30-29. Even though the Wildcats were winning, it wasn’t good enough. As the game went on, the score kept increasing as if the two teams were chasing each other. The ending score was 52-41making Whitman victorious once again. This game showed the team what they need to work on and like Coach Lopez said, “it was the first game that put pressure on us and I think it will help us going into Dundee. Unlike us, Dundee has not played anyone that was a challenge.”
