On November 2nd and 3rd the Marcus Whitman Drama Club put on a tremendous show for the audience. The play was The Miracle Worker, based on the story of Helen Keller’s life. The cast members included Alec Calabrese as a doctor, Aaron Landcastle as assuring Captain Keller, and Lara Wright as his wife, Kate. Cara Gopen played Mr. and Mrs. Keller’s daughter, Helen. Annie Sullivan (the woman that helps the Keller’s control Helen) was played by Hannah Corey.

The rest of the cast included Spencer Lightfoote, Ian Whitt, Laney Read, Holly Wilson, David Frasca, Anthony Ingerick, Leona Sawyer, Jenna Christiansen, and Middle School Students; Caitlyn Bailey, Maddie Brown, Erin Ormsby, Amy Nolan, Jasper Daniels, Rebekah Champlain, Tyler Smith, and Erica Ruscio.

The cast put on a fantastic show that wowed the audience. Mr. Grzeskowiak was very proud of the cast on their performances both Friday and Saturday nights commenting, “The cast and I are really pleased with the show. All of us feel that the Drama Club is growing and this was the best performance we have had so far. I’m very proud of these guys.” Both performances had minor flaws that were not noticeable to the audience. Hannah Corey’s performance as Annie was mesmerizing. Lara Wright’s portrayal of the struggling mother left the audience in tears, while Aaron Landcastle embodied the frustration of Captain Keller. Miss Gopen’s performance of Helen was believable and honest. The magical moment at the end of the show when Helen connects sign language with words and sounds brought together a truly inspirational performance.

There were many memorable performances by the rest of the cast. After two nights of standing ovations, the drama club members and the directors should be proud of an excellent performance.
