Hey everyone, it’s been a while since my last review, but there are a lot of new restaurants in Lincoln and people want to know if it is worth their time going to them. Now for as long as I’ve lived in Lincoln, the only places I could enjoy oriental food was either at Lincoln Chinese or Jumbo Chinese, never a Japanese place; but now, a new Japanese restaurant recently opened hoping to give a new taste to the Lincoln area.

Tani Sushi (In the Old Town Pizza Building)

First of all, the restaurant decoration is done very well. It gives an oriental feel, without getting to far away from an American feel. It is obviously cheaply done, but done very well. The music is not something you’d expect in a Japanese restaurant though, with the trance and house tracks they play, it gives it a much more recognizable feel. The sushi bar is a fairly good size; it seats about 10-12 people and has a cool looking display of some of the sushi they offer. The normal tables are a pretty comfortable size, but a little wobbly (the one I sat at anyway), the entire restaurant can seat about 150 people, so don’t make reservations just yet, it has room to get a little crowded.

If you like sushi, the prices at Tani Sushi are fairly reasonable, you will end up paying about $9.00 for a standard roll and about $3.00-$3.75 for standard sushi; everything else at Tani Sushi is pretty extravagant. The salmon dinner costs $19.95, and there really is not anything too special about it. The salmon is a standard size cut and it comes with rice and asparagus, nothing in huge portions, there is really nothing too off the wall from this dish to make it cost twenty bucks, but I guess the restaurant has to make money somehow.

The service at the restaurant is satisfactory. While the waiters and waitresses are very friendly, the speed that they serve you at can use some work. Considering that it was just me and one other couple in the entire restaurant, I don’t see why the service didn’t go a little quicker, I suppose it is always slow when a restaurant just starts out, but they will need to pick up the pace if they want to keep up with new, larger crowds.

Overall, the restaurant gives good food at a not-so-good price. If you are looking for reasonably priced oriental food, go to Lincoln or Jumbo Chinese, but if you really want Japanese and don’t mind paying a high price, then you will enjoy Tani Sushi.
