So you’re a freshman or a sophomore and you really want to go off campus huh? All your friends are going off and you don't want to look like a loser! So you borrow someone’s ID or you wait for Ms. Smith and Gale to leave before you take off. And maybe you were successful getting off, or maybe you got caught. You get sent up to Ms. Smith's office were if it is only your first offense your warned. But if it's your second you get on the never list.

The never list is the worst news a student can get when they love going off campus for lunch. The list is a number of students who will never get an off campus pass even if they got caught their freshman year and it is now their senior year. "There are about 25 people on the warning list, and about 10 people on the never list," comments Ms. Smith. “We did have one student a while back who got onto the never list his freshman year. He came back about a month before he graduated and made an appointment with us. He brought in his good grades and showed them to us along with the fact that he had never gotten caught again and has stayed out of trouble. He asked if he could have an off campus pass since there was only a month left of school. After discussing it we decided he could have his pass. This is a rare thing and doesn’t always work like this. But he had really proven himself,” says Ms. Smith.

“I was caught as a freshman and got detention,” says Jaime Williams. She explains she went off again but didn’t get caught. “It’s ok now though because I’m a junior so I don’t have to worry about it!” Jaime now happily goes off campus everyday for lunch and doesn’t have to worry about anything.

Going off campus for lunch with friends is a lot of fun, but getting caught isn’t. The freshman and sophomores just need to wait their turn like everybody else as boring as it may be. Staying on campus does have its advantages though. There is a less likely chance of being late to class, its less expensive than eating out everyday, and lower classmen won’t get in trouble.

There is a way of getting the best of both worlds though. You could always have a friend pick up food for you, so you’re not stuck with school food everyday, and maybe a parent could pick you up or even drop food off for you.

These small things really can make lunch more enjoyable. So don’t sneak off because chances are it’s really not going to be worth it when you’re a senior and everyone else gets to go off. There are four years of high school to get through so try to make the best of it, trouble-free.
