“Ole, ole, ole, ole. Ole. Ole,” To the Varsity boys soccer team, that six word phrase has only one synonym: victory.

Prepared by a tough preseason schedule, Varsity has been able to stay competitive in league, keeping pace with everyone, and even pulling ahead to lead the pack at the end of the first half of the season.

“It will come down to the last game. Five teams will be fighting for that league title, and we’re one of them,” said Coach Javier Banuelos.

The team’s strength lies in its speed. The team is well balanced offensively and defensively, giving midfielders the opportunity to control the middle and open up the pass without having to worry too much about acting as “extra” defenders.

The Zebras do seem to have some trouble with slow starts and lazy endings, and that inability to focus for the entire game will be Lincoln’s fatal flaw if contention for league remains a neck-to-neck race throughout the second half pf the season.

“We start out slow the first 10 minutes of the game, then we play strong until the last 10 minutes of the game. We got to learn how to play the game 80 straight minutes,” said Banuelos.

Senior Adrian Deharo has been a driving force on the team, as a scoring leader, he holds second in league with over ten goals in the first half of the season.

“Adrian has really stepped up as a leader of the team. He has taken the leadership position out on the field. We lost some players at the beginning of the season due to grades, but I think everyone has pretty much stepped up to play the game,” said Banuelos.
