When you think of a rally, you usually think about games, making fun of your opponent, and cheering on your team, but some things are going to change.
In the CIF regulations there is something called sportsmanship. The code of ethics states that all athletics should emphasize the proper ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play. This is not something new to CIF, but now it is being enforced.
The leadership class had to change the last rally they did due to the enforcement of the “new” rule. That meant that any skits that would put down our opponent in any way could not be performed. The Philosophical Criteria for New Events states:
Any additional event should contribute to the goals of the organization (for instance, a new event might enhance gender equality, economic stability and enhance the awareness of values taught through sport or enhance the recognition of achievement of students). Sponsors of an event will be required to adhere to a “code of ethics” developed by the CIF to promote the values of the organization. (Provided By CIF Web Site)
This rule has been in existence for years, but this year is the first year it is being enforced. This isn’t the only change either. Many people have heard the rumor that CD music is going to be banned at rallies, but this is not true. Removing CD music isn’t what leadership has planned. All that they want to do is get the band more involved.
During an interview with Mr. Butler he said, “Rallies should mention all sports.”
Over the years, rallies have mainly concentrated on football, basketball, or baseball, and this isn’t going to change. “A rally is there to rally support for whatever it is for,” Mrs. Smith said when interviewed about the changes. Students will have to wait and see what changes are made and how they affect how entertaining the rallies are.
