When life gets rough, escaping is the one thing that keeps us sane. For Adrienne Willis (Diana Lane), the star of “Nights In Rodanthe,” a vacation was the one thing that saved her.
Willis is in the middle of a divorce, not to mention raising a teenager and a pre-teen. When the children go away with their father for a weekend, Willis escapes to a small town called Rodanthe.
While there, she tends to her friend’s inn and the one guest that arrives, Dr. Paul Flanner (Richard Gere) changes their plans for a calm, quiet getaway.
Flanner’s life is also in chaos when he arrives in the small, quaint town. Hoping to only stay for one night, he quietly goes about his business. Although, when things get too out of hand for both Flanner and Willis, it seems that all they have is each other.
Director George C. Wolfe is somewhat familiar with the screen, and his skills shine brightly in this dramatic film. He put the scenes together very well, and filled the audience with every emotion. With tears of joy came tears of sorrow, and when least expected, surprise and suspense overwhelmed the audience.
Lane and Gere’s chemistry shines throughout the entire movie. Their suspenseful actions and flirtatious ways helped the audience relate to the character’s lives. And since both are experienced in the filming business, this was not a hard task for them to accomplish.
Gere starred in “Shall We Dance” and “Pretty Woman,” while Lane has appeared in “Under The Tuscan Sun” and “Must Love Dogs.”
However, the two did not make the movie by themselves. With the help of Christopher Meloni, Viola Davis, Mae Whitman and Charlie Tahan, “Nights In Rodanthe” turned out to be a wonderful film, full of emotional scenes and inspirational moments that added the perfect touch.
Overall, “Nights In Rodanthe” kept the audience intrigued to the very end, where you could all but realize that a trip to the beach was all you need.
