Hair extensions, phone extensions and…stage extensions?

If you walk into Hoover Hall soon, you won’t be seeing any extensions except for the one that was recently added to the stage. The new stage addition in Hoover Hall now goes out farther than the previous one and is removable and resizable.

Mr. Kim Jacoby, the theater tech teacher and one of the choir directors, said that the stage was bought with a grant that was intended to buy various items.

“The Hoover Foundation decided on the new stage extension for both safety and looks,” Jacoby said.

In addition to the stage, the grant also bought a new set of choir risers, which were also purchased mostly for safety reasons.

Jacoby said that he thinks these changes will go over well.

“I think everyone who sees the stage will like it,” he added.

Junior Rachel Beuoy, who is in one of the theater tech classes, said that she likes what she sees so far.

“It’s exciting,” she said. “It’s bigger and better and I think it will add more to the shows–it’s [Mr.] Jacoby’s new toy.”

Beuoy will be managing the first play to appear on the stage, “Sabrina Fair.”

Of course, the new stage isn’t all about looks and improvements. A lot of time and work were involved to make it whole.

The stage requires a few hours to take down and a day to put back up. The pieces have to be moved one at a time, whether going into or out of place. They also have to be level, so that the stage is even as well as stable. Much crawling under the stage is involved, and those who take theater tech will get the chance to squeeze under there before long.

“Personally, I haven’t done it yet, but I’m not exactly looking forward to taking it apart,” Beuoy said.

However, Beuoy said that she believes that it will be nice to be able to move the stage back to its original size in addition to enlarging it, depending on the need.

“Plus, I’m really looking forward to doing the musical on the new stage,” she said.

Jacoby said that the stage is helpful because the new size will allow the band and choir more room on stage–both are so large they barely fit behind the curtain.

“We have a great problem here at Hoover. Our plays and musicals are hugely successful, and this stage will only help,” Jacoby said.
