The boys cross country team raced at the Cloverleaf Invitational. Junior Jason Bosyj won the open open vetrans race with a time of 17:59 also placing in the top 10 for the Vikings were juniors Chris Pratt (left), Matt Roshak, John Jackson and Drew Nickle. In the varsity race senior Adam Stackpole won the race with a time of 16:11. Junior Zach Goulet recorded a ninth place finish with a time of 17:04. The boys placed first at the Invitational and are currently ranked third in the state.

The girls cross country team continued their success at the Cloverleaf Invitational. Top runners for the Vikings were Abby Kastor coming in first and in second place was Kaylee Bing running in the Veterans’ race. In the varsity race Erin Garfield took second and following close behind was Ally Peare, Sarah Tirrell and Megan Monte getting fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. The boys soccer team was in action Sept. 13 against Cuyahoga Falls. The team won 5-0. Seniors Brian Kreinbrink and Andrew Turgeon both scored goals in the game. The boys then took on Perry scoring another shut out was senior goalie Sam Maj with four saves. The team hit a snag though when they tied Kent Roosevelt 1-1 scoring the only goal for the Vikings was once again Kreinbrink. After losing to Cloverleaf, the girls soccer team came back against Lake and defeated them 3-2. Senior Jackie Nicodemo scored all three goals and sophomore Katie Freshour and senior Georgeanna Strohmenger made assists. After losing a close game to Green, the girls continued on to win 2-1 against Austintown Fitch, 2-1 against Medina Highland and 3-2 against Perry.

After beating McKinley 17-7 in the first Federal League game, the Hoover football team traveled to Boardman, beating the Spartans 38-7. The offense was lead by senior Jared Wackerly, who threw for 360 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Matt Wakulchick finished with 194 receiving yards and 18 points. Wakulchick was also six yards shy of breaking the single-game receiving record. The defense forced three fumbles and two interceptions. (Left: Alex Huth, Jared Wackerly) -Bill Gould

The boys golf team continued their season with a close win over Perry, 159-163. Leading the team were sophomore Jay Shingleton, senior Anthony Bontrager and senior Nate Shingleton. As of 26 Sept., their record is 6-4, 4-3. On the other hand, the girls team was not able to defeat the undefeated Panthers. They lost 168-205. The girls’ tennis team has continued to lead a winning season. They defeated McKinley and Central Catholic in a 5-0 win, with Lauren Bolender (left), Kristy Kennelly and Kaitlyn Kennelly at the top of their game. Traveling to the Louisville doubles tournament Sept. 15, doubles partners Stacia Bagnolo and Megan Wise, Valerie Fitler and Rachel Libertin, and Kim Oakland and Katie Plakas placed first against teams from around the area. -Abby Hall

The Lady Vikes continued their 7-4 season with a win in 3 games against Northwest. Following their win the girls traveled to Perry to give a fighting effort of 4 games but returning home with a loss. Staying on the road, the Vikings defeated McKinley in 3 games, and Minerva in 4 games.

Senior Casey Anderson had the most kills every game, while senior Hallie Legg (left) had the most serves and senior McKenna Russ had the most assists.
