AS FAST AS A COLT: Chunise Anthony hurdles to win. - Lisa Hoang

The Carson Colts Track Team showed everyone that they are the best in the league by defeating the Washington Prep Generals.
The Colts made us proud and finished with a Varsity girls’ score of 85-16 and the boys tied with 54-54. On the Frosh-Soph team the girls won 47-37, while the boys won 56-43.
During this meet, there were a plethora of events such as the long jump; high jump, hurdles, 4x4 relay, 4x1 relay, mile, 2 mile and pole vault The AA team also participated in their own events as well.
Some events, such as the 4x1 relay, were crowd-pleasing as the runners got everyone cheering and on their feet when they were neck and neck with their competitors until the finish line. Unfortunately in the 4x1 relay, Milo Howard disqualified the runners for a wrong pass.
“We messed up in the handoff because I didn’t hand it off in the right zone, so they disqualified us,” Howard said.
The Generals were pretty tough opponents, but in the end they weren’t strong enough to take home the final win.
“They [Generals] were well trained. They have some pretty good sprinters, enough to take the win in the 4x1, but we worked hard on that,” Senior Austin Dotson said.
“They were pretty good, they gave their all just like we’re doing,” Sophomore Myles Johnson said.
A shortage of runners on the Generals side may explain why they lost many events.
“The 100 was competitive but in the other races, I was running against my teammates. There weren’t as many competitors as I liked,” Senior Alisha Belt said.
The support that the team has for one another is what motivates them to keep on going for a win.
“My friends motivate me, they’re there for me when I need them,” Senior Jeiel Graham said.
For many of the runners, the one thing they need to work on is maintaining their stamina and keeping their energy.
“I came in first on the first lap but after I got passed the 600 mark- I started running out of stamina and that’s when I came into second place and my rival was faster than me by endurance,” Graham said.
Although the Colts had won against Washington Prep, they still need to work on their individual events as well as teamwork.
No matter what, the Colts will always make us proud. Good job!
