In the past months, a large construction job has taken place in the Clayton Valley Shopping Center along Ygnacio Valley Road. This is because the shopping center is in the process of being renovated.
A majority of the existing buildings will be torn down to make room for more construction and parking. All the existing business will still be in the shopping center, with the addition of a few new ones including Pet Food Express, Jamba Juice and Nob Hill/ Raley’s.
“The new buildings are a great addition to the ‘rustic’ shopping center,” stated Shelia McKeown manager of Aladinos, a pizzeria in the Clayton Valley shopping center.
Others agreed, “It will be nice to have a new businesses by my home,” said Nick Mingay, another employee of Aladinos.
Three new buildings have also been erected in what was once used as the shopping center’s parking lot.
The creation of these new businesses will open up numerous job opportunities for Clayton Valley students.
“I like the idea of the new buildings,” said freshman Gia Bogut. “I’m hoping to get a job at Jamba Juice.”
Although most people feel the new businesses are a good thing for the shopping center, others oppose them.
“The new businesses are going to take all the money away from the ‘mom and pop’ stores. Big business is taking over Clayton,” said an employee at Aladinos, who wished to remain anonymous.
There are also students at CV who share the same views.
“It will cause more traffic and the construction is wasting more money,” said senior Micah Sable.
The newly refurbished shopping center should be open in the weeks to come.
