Presidential Elections recently passed, and as you should know, Barack Obama is our country’s new President. Students at CCHS still have some things to say about both candidates. Some are still undecided and just go along with whomever. Florida, Ohio, California, Pennsylvania, and Texas were the key states to win and Obama won every one but Texas. John McCain ended up with 163 of the 270 votets needed to win while Barack Obama had 349.
Voting in Florida was chaotic with lines coming out of buildings. It took forever to count the ballots too. Obama won the state 51% to 49%. Here are some things students had to say before voting started.
“There are things wrong with both Presidential candidates, but more with McCain,” 9th grader Anita Muneshar admits.
Sophomore Pedmarlin Occelus can’t vote yet, but his choice is Obama. “Obama is helping more with economic problems,” he says.
Senior Alanna Baez also thinks that Obama will help more with economic problems. She says, “Obama, because McCain has the same plans as Bush.”
Tenth grader Felix Gordon is another Obama fan, not because of his plans, but his age. “I’d vote for Obama—he’s a President for now and won’t die of a heart attack tomorrow,” he says.
Freshman Stephanie Wagner happens to be one of the McCain fans on campus saying, “The money we make shouldn’t be given to people who took dangerous chances [with buying expensive homes] and lost their houses.”
Many students hear facts or research to get to know each candidate better, but 9th grader Seanye Perkins is one of the others who sides with a party without much research. Republicans are said to be elephants and Democrats donkeys. “I choose Obama because of the donkey!” She said.
A few students after the election have things to say about the results and if they think that our new President Obama will do a good or bad job running the country.
“I think that Obama people have high expectations from him, making it hard to please everyone.” Sophomore Dariana Rodriguez says.
“Woohoo!” Freshman Luz Fernandez rejoiced after Obama’s victory.
Overall, Presidential Elections were probably the craziest in all of America’s history, but it’s over and Barack Obama is now claims the title of America’s 44th President. It’s not really the end, but rather the beginning for all of America.
