The Christmas season is a time for celebration, for gift-giving, charity, enjoying oneself, and thankfulness. It’s also a time, however, for some awesome or dreadful Christmas movies.

As all of you know, the Christmas season has been pushed back to the day after Thanksgiving, and that is when you start to see the Christmas premiers coming out in theaters. This year, there’s “Fred Claus”, a movie about Santa’s brother Fred and how he has always been living in his brother’s shadow. There is also “This Christmas”, a typical all the family is returning for the holidays flick. “The Perfect Holiday” was just released on December 12 and it entails a single mom who begins to date a mall Santa.

Christmas this year won’t be without the slasher films. On Christmas day, “Sweeney Todd,” a musical about an insane killer barber, is being released. My only recommendation is not to bring your little siblings to it if you plan on going.

For other slasher audiences who are not quite into musicals, this Christmas Day is marked by the release of the new Alien Versus Predator movie; the battle is now in our back yard, so enjoy.

Shaun Graham, a Springboro senior, says “I cannot wait to go see the new AvP movie but my family will probably want me to go after Christmas day…”

The theaters are not the only place you can see Christmas cheer. During the Holiday season, Christmas T.V. shows are abundant. If you don’t believe me then just turn on ABC Family and prepared to be blown away by the endless lineup of Christmas shows and movies known as the 25 days of Christmas.

Also, one can head over to Blockbuster and explore the numerous movies that came out on previous years. The Santa Clause has always been a favorite but many students recommend against the sequel.

Michelle Crooks, a Springboro junior, says “the first Santa Clause was great but they pretty much got progressively worse.”

I’ve asked a few of Springboro’s own to share their opinion on the best Christmas movie and here are the results.

Kevin Kramb, a senior here at Springboro High School, said “Home Alone is my favorite Christmas movie because the kid’s name is Kevin!”

Despite what genre one has in mind, horror, musical, a little bit of both, seasonal, dramas, or a nice family movie, this Christmas season is bound to have at least one movie in hand to dazzle eggnog drunk audiences.
