Last Christmas I got a Kindle Fire. I’ve had a few months to play with it and learn about it, and I’ve discovered there are so many things you can do. More than just read books, you can go on the internet, watch movies and play games, too. However, the unit is geared more toward reading books because it is an e-reader, and that’s the reason I got it I love to read.
It is touch screen and is similar to the iPad but in miniature. One of the most popular games is of course “Word with Friends,” but there are many others. Everyday there is a free app of the day along with a list of several other apps that are free for a limited time.
In order to get some of the more exclusive features you have to be a member of Amazon Prime. It costs 80$ a year to be a member, but you receive some great features. You get to borrow one book a month free from the kindle owner’s lending library, unlimited streaming of thousands of movies and T.V. shows.
The membership extends beyond the Kindle; for example, when you by something on Amazon under your account you receive free two day shipping on everything.
The Kindle Fire is a great cheaper replacement for the iPad if you don’t mind the lack of a camera, navigation system, and huge amounts of storage space this is perfect. It’s $199 and with Kindle prime it’s only $80 extra per year. The iPad costs $500 minimum and uses your wireless carriers 3G service, so it is much expensive to operate on a monthly basis.
