This 17- year-old is hot!
Check her out in the senior parking lot. No, it’s not a girl. It’s Matt
Duvall’s 1993 Dodge Shadow.
The Shadow wasn’t always so
vibrant. When Duvall first got the car from his grandmother three years ago, it
was rust with a little green. Over the summer, Duvall and a group of friends
got together and sanded the car down.
Duvall then taped up the
windows, handles and lights. After that, he rolled on a coat of primer, which
was followed by six coats of true blue paint. He sanded between every other
coat, and then he did the same for the bumpers, but with spray paint.
The Shadow has developed
several peculiarities, such as having its own unique climate. The doors of the
Shadow no longer seal, so when it rains, moisture gets inside the car,
evaporates and causes it to rain inside the car. During the wintertime, Duvall
has to scrape off the frost inside and outside.
Despite the car’s quirkiness,
Duvall says that it still gets him places, and he appreciates it.
“It’s pretty much my dream
car.”
While he’s fond of the
Shadow, Duvall says that he may have to get rid of the car soon because of a
possible transmission problem. The car no longer goes in reverse, making
parking and getting out of a parking space difficult.
Before their seemingly inevitable separation,
though, Duvall says he’s thinking of taking it off of a jump --but not a big
one, “cause I might get hurt.”
