The Back to School Dance is always a great way to begin the year.  Many students look forward to getting with their friends, planning matching outfits, and dancing the night away. The dance was held Friday, August 21 in the Emporia High gym.

For the seniors, this Back to School Dance will be their last.

“This year’s dance was ten times better than previous years! It was our last one and all the seniors went together. The best part was definitely getting ready at Lindy’s (Arndt) house,” said Sammie Gumfory, sr.

Some students just go for the social aspect. Having a group is not required to attend. The majority of the students attending do not.

“I didn’t go with a group, I just went with my friend Herbert Romero. It was something to do besides staying at home,” said Kyle Atkins, sr.

This dance is about more than just going to the school and hanging out with friends. Being at the beginning of the school year, this is the first event that really gives the new freshman a chance to interact with the upperclassmen.

Whether going as a freshman or an upperclassman, this dance will always be a found memory. Freshman will look back on this and remember their first high school dance, while, seniors will always remember it as their last back to school dance.
