Fall sports are winding to a close. Most notably this means the end is drawing near for NCHS Football. The first playoff game was November 2nd with the Lake Norman Wildcats.
Lake Norman led late into the game, but was shut down as the game came to a close. The Trojans lifted themselves up to 17-7 taking the win in an upset. This away game was the first among a hopeful many. As the Trojans season ends and the playoffs continue, more games against higher seeded teams will result in far more away games.
Yet as the season began to wind down, the Trojans grew in anticipation of the last game of the regular season against East Rowan. As the tension built, Mother Nature decided that she had other plans in store. The game was not destined to be played under the Friday night lights. Rains poured down, for the first time in quite a while. The game was postponed.
Monday rolled around and supporting Trojans shucked on their coats and trudged out to the field. The Nutties filed in as the boys took the field. The first half was sensational at the very least. The Trojan offense scored for 30 points while their defensive counterparts kept the East Rowan team shut down. At halftime, the score was 30-08 Trojans.
But the game was far from a shut out.
The East Rowan Mustangs came back from the locker room with the idea that victory was still within their grasps. It was an idea they proved. They came back from 23 down to end the game at 37-29. The Mustangs picked up the ball and started running. By the time the fourth quarter had come to a close, the Trojans had only landed a single touchdown while East Rowan had gained 21 points. It was a great game, despite the grumble of students against the creeping cold.
As the cold steals into the town, the Trojans take their hats off to a well played season that is not over yet. Even though Northwest Trojan football may be coming to a close for the year, other Trojan sports are only beginning. The Trojans are set to play Burns at Lawndale, NC on November 9th.
