The Miami Book Fair International is an annual event in Miami, bringing together authors from the United States and all around the world. Miami-Dade College and community partners founded the book fair in 1984, and it has been recognized as the nation's finest literary festival since.
"I enjoyed the variety of books offered and how much literature is offered in the world," said Laura Paklin, a junior in the IT Academy. More than 350 authors get together to read and discuss their work, including authors from Latin America.
There was a book for everyone; from toddlers to seniors. “My favorite part was the comic book sale,” said Paklin. Children participated in Children’s Alley activities which included theater, arts-and-crafts, storytelling and readings by children’s book authors.
“I went on the hunt for bargain books at a cheap price that were also on my reading list or looked interesting,” said Javon Brown, a juniors in the Cambridge academy. While some people go for the bargain books others go to support the Fair and preserving an event that has been around for such a long time.
“Now-a-days tablets are replacing books, so it is nice to see people encouraging a supporting the Fair, it would be a shame to let this event go to waste,” said Nathalie Gonzalez, a junior in Communications and Entertainment.
This annual event that takes place in Miami brings together cultures form around the World and is accessible to a large audience from different cultural backgrounds. “All in all, it was like a flea market for books,” said Brown.
