What's your favorite candy? Did you know that Skittles was loosely based on the M&M candy?
Skittles was introduced for the first time in 1974, and it was originally made in England.
As many of you may know, Skittles' original five flavors included: grape, strawberry, lemon, lime and orange.
Over the years Skittles have updated their variety to tropical skittles, fruit smoothie Skittles, frizzled fruit skittles and many more.
The
complete process of creating the candy takes nearly 8 hours!
First, the
chewy center is primarily made of sugar and other
ingredients including fruit juice, citric acid, hydrogenated vegetable oil, natural & artificial flavors
.
When the center is completed, these centers are coated with a sugar
flavored shell. This is called panning.
These shells are then
polished and blended.
The logo ‘S' are then printed on each candy.
Finally it is packed and is ready for sale.
Skittles is a very popular candy and continues to be a big hit, especially with every new flavors being invented.
