The new television show, The Deep End, is rapidly becoming my new favorite show to watch. Airing on Thursdays on ABC, it doesn’t preempt my favorite NBC shows like The Office and 30 Rock, it is still a worthwhile show.
The show focuses on five young lawyers who are first year associates at a prestigious Los Angles law firm. Diverse, determined and brilliant, these characters promise to make it a show worth following. Dylan is an idealist played by Matt Long, who was Tyler in Sydney White. Honestly, he makes the show worth watching for me. Maybe that’s shallow since he does happen to be incredibly good looking, but he is also an incredible actor. He has depth and cuteness all in one. I also enjoy the sarcastic comments of Rowdy Kaiser. He is played by Norbert Leo Butz who has incredible comedic timing. His lines are delivered flawlessly with just the right touch of sincerity.
The cases that these lawyers take on are normally very predictable. The good guy wins in the end 99% of the time. It eliminates the surprise and suspense of the courtroom scenes, that’s for sure. The show would be a lot better if it were more realistic; after all good people do go to jail sometimes.
The Deep End has been dubbed a wanna-be Grey’s Anatomy in other reviews of the series. Yes, the series do share things in common. Yong doctors trying to make, juvenile lawyers struggling with their careers. And honestly, between the two, Grey’s is better. But fans of one show will most likely enjoy the other.
