By Madison Watson

The one whom teachers adore, obtains good grades, and the one who is admired by his classmates is Ryan Lawrence. This year, Lawrence earned the title of Teague High School’s “Student of the Year.” Lawrence has attended school in Teague for his whole life and as a compliment for the many years of hard work and studious tendencies he was honored with the award by the Chamber of Commerce Committee. On receiving this award Lawrence said “I was not expecting to receive this honor. However, I am honored and humbled by receiving this award.” “My mother motivated me through the years to be a good student. Wanting to succeed also motivated me to be a good student so I could be successful in life.”Lawrence stated when asked what motivated him through his years of schooling. Lawrence’s mother, Patricia Lawrence, is a grade 5 English teacher at Teague Intermediate. Lawrence also has a knack for public speaking, because of this he participates in University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.). When “The class I love is Mrs. Smiths’ Speech II class. I love this class because many of my close friends are in this class. Also, I learned valuable speaking skills doing U.I.L Debate.” Said Lawrence. U.I.L. not only is a program for accelerated students, but it keeps high schoolers out of trouble by providing a place where students can pour their talent. “Well I am good at drawing, and being studious. I am also good at the sports I play.” Lawrence said when asked about hobbies and staying out of trouble. Lawrence was also voted most athletic by his class mates this year for the traditional senior polls. A few tips from Lawrence for students who have hopes of winning this award are, “Always strive to do your best, be respectful, and persevere in everything you do.” Lawrence is graduating as Salutatorian of the Teague High School class of 2011, and he will attend Texas A&M University next fall.
