Music is in for a change and, darlin', you hit it on the nose. Toby Lightman's music style is great for teens these days. Lightman's Lava Records debut, Little Things, was released March 2004. "Devils and Angels" has an excellent beat; the song's style is centered around the likes of rock, rap, and country. "The River" has a good beat also and is well suited for fans of rap/hip-hop. "Front Row" has the style of a diva and an excellent, slow paced beat set to relax a frustrated person. "Frightened" is a slow paced song that everyone from young kids to elderly folks will enjoy. Press release material that accompanied a 4-song CD explained that Lightman actually discovered her sining voice by accident. "In high school, a friend of mine suggested we enroll in a vocal workshop class so we could just fool around, sing and hang out she recalled. "What ended up happening, however, was that the teacher noticed I had some talent and kept encouraging me to audition for more advanced choral groups. I kept getting accepted and that's when I realized, 'Okay, maybe I can sing.'" Lightman's vocal style incorporates the influences of jazz singers like Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald. "I loved the way these singers could scat, or riff, and I found myself trying to do that with my own voice," she said. "That may be why some people think my songs have an R&B element in them."
