By Regina Shapiro

ON SET: Extras transform into cheerleaders in the pilot for High School Undercover, a new Fox pilot filmed on campus.

Film crews hoped to once again captivate audiences with Uni’s campus while shooting High School Undercover, a pilot for FOX television, on March 15. The filming ensued in Kevin Paulsen’s chemistry lab and the lower field, where the actors and numerous extras taped a replica of a high-school football game. The all-day shoot lasted from the beginning of school until 7:30 p.m. The show will revolve around a young, female, undercover FBI agent, posing as a chemistry teacher who is sent into high school to battle drug issues. High School Undercover will feature Rachel Nichols and Peter Facinnelli, who also appeared on the hit-series, Fastlane, and popular movies such as Riding In Cars With Boys and Can’t Hardly Wait. Fox, which has recently regained popularity with their teen-friendly shows like The O.C. and Malcolm in the Middle, previously used the campus to film Oliver Beene, which featured the upper field as part of a 60s era East Coast school campus. Todd Kesler, the executive producer of the show, has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry with his work on the hit HBO special the Sopranos. The director, Katherine Bigelow is also famous for her work on K-9 and Strange Days. The campus has often been used by studios like Disney, Fox, and MGM (Metro-Goldwyn Mayer) to lend a specific atmosphere to the lives of characters like Lizzy McGuire. According to High School Undercover producer Michael Cedars, the production team chose Uni as the set because of its “unique, East-coast look.” But, don’t start looking for the show on your local listing just yet—less than ten percent of pilots are chosen for broadcast. Yet, while the tradition of filming continues on campus, students are sure to see their school flicker on the TV.
