With a roster of almost all returning starters the girls softball team is hoping to hit a grand slam this season. “We are always a good hitting team, and we have good defense but we will rely on the pitching of [senior] Catherin Smith to help us this season,” senior Livi Abney said. State is a realistic goal for the girls this season, but the team will have to get by the first half of the season in which they face their to biggest rivals Olathe East and Shawnee Mission Northwest according to Smith. “You play teams in the summer, and you think you are prepared to face them in the regular season,” Smith said. “Facing them in a high school setting is just so much harder.” The girls hope to play hard and learn who they will face in the post season.
