By Greg Dillard

The 2006 OHS boys and girls track and field teams are competing, succeeding, and poised for a strong finish to their season. The boys finished ninth at the PV relays March 3and ninth at the North Canyon Invitational March 11. The girls placed sixth at both the PV relays and North Canyon Invitational. Fifty-five girls make up the girls team at OHS, and there are 35 boys are the boys team. “We are becoming a well- rounded team. We have someone talented in all of the events,” head girls coach Brian Dempsey said. The teams have 17 different events in which the athletes compete in. There are five Wednesday meets, three invitationals, and region and state competition. Sophomore Lindsay Prescott and Spencer Morgan, a senior, are also representing OHS and competing in a very big invitational in California on April 8. The athletes have worked on so far this season and are continuing to do so. “I’ve definitely im-proved since last year because at the first meet, I got my old personal records from the end of last season,” athlete Alyssa Hinchman said. “ The boys have really stepped up this year, they have beaten many of their personal records and are doing really well.” The freshmen athletes will compete in the freshman showcase at Cactus Shadows on April 1, followed by a meet on April 5 at North Canyon. On May 3rd and 5th, regionals will be held at Deer Valley. “We want to qualify as many athletes to the state meet as possible,” Dempsey said.
