By Rebecca Watford

On Monday Jan. 22, McPherson and Central Christian colleges will be holding a Financial Aid Night for juniors, seniors and their parents in the media center at the high school. “I think it’s a really good idea because college is really expensive and it gives people a chance to see their options in financial aid,” senior Kendall Regier said. Representatives will talk to students about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, the form students must fill out to see how many financial benefits they will receive. They will also discuss important topics such as the goals of financial aid, cost of attendance, different kinds of grants, the benefits and costs of loans, the application process, as well as how to figure out how much financial aid will be needed. Financial Aid Night is an annual event that takes place to assist students in filling out and understanding financial aid forms. Financial Aid Night is taking place in time to start on the FAFSA worksheet whichwas to be started Jan. 1 and should be sent in by July of this year. FAFSA is a form that must be filled out annually by students and sometimes parents of graduate, undergraduate, current or anticipating college students. It is used to determine the eligibility of students for grants, loans, and work study programs. Most schools, including schools in the state of Kansas, use information from the FAFSA to award non-federal aid.
