By Murphy Wildeman and Maddy Eiss

Hashtags have become famous from the social networking site Twitter. However, the new trend has become "the verbal hashtag." According to Twitter, "The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics..." The new revolution is emphasizing words by saying "hashtag" as a pre-fix. Freshman Robert Caldwell loves using verbal hashtags. In fact, he's calling the new trend: "Hashtag Revolution." He went on further and said "I embrace verbal hashtags because they make the conversation more interesting."Caldwell does realize that there are "haters." That's why he uses verbal hashtags with limitations. Sophmore Leah McGetrick hates both verbal and written hashtags. She finds them unnecessary and pointless. "I especially hate it when people use hashtags on Facebook, leave it on Twitter." Junior David Rivera said that it all started last week. He is surprised on how quickly it is spreading. "I believe people are using verbal hashtags because it's trendy." Whether you like them or not, verbal hashtags are becoming the new sensation.
