By Michael Skinner/Staff Reporter

Shrek 2 received a Peoples Choice Award for “Best Animated Feature.”

Photo courtersy of Allposters.com

People’s Choice Awards are different from most of the Hollywood award shows. Until 2004, the winners of the People’s Choice Awards were selected through a poll of votes from the general public. The people were polled for their opinion about their favorite movie, TV stars, singers, films, and TV programs. Those polled were free to name any star that they liked. In other words, voters’ choices were not limited to a handful of nominees. However, this year that system was not used to determine the winners of the People’s Choice Awards. This year the winners were selected through a panel of over 6,000 enthusiasts chosen specifically for this awards ceremony. The winners this year included television series such as “Will and Grace,” “American Idol,” and even MTV’s “Newlyweds.” In the music category, “U2” took home favorite band or group. Favorite movie star was sent home with Johnny Depp and favorite female was claimed by Julia Roberts. There were also more specific awards given out such as Favorite Male Action movie star, won by Will Smith and Female Action Movie Star was rightfully handed to Angelina Jolie. Favorite leading man was Brad Pitt, and leading lady was Renee Zellweger. Though many people may argue that “The Incredibles” was the rightful winner of the “Best Animated Movie,” it was given to Shrek 2.
