By Jack Andreasen

The “411” on Amadeus

Grade: 12

Hometown: Richmond, Indiana

Sports: Basketball, Track

Interesting fact: Named after a famous 1980’s rock song by Falco (just kidding)

He is 5’1 and named after a famous composer. He is a native of Indiana. And he is new to HHS. Who is he? Amadeus Long, or better known as A.D., has come a long way, traveling here all the way from Richmond, Indiana. Richmond is located on the eastern border of the state, and about 800 miles from Hastings. “We decided to make the move after Hastings College recruited my brother to come play football, he played at Kansas State last year,” Long said. He is excited about the opportunity to live in Hastings. “It should be a nice, fresh start, I’m excited to see a how everything is going to be in a new state and school.” Long attended Richmond High last year and played both football and basketball there. This year, though, he will only be playing basketball. At Richmond he played against future NBA star Eric Gordon, the number one overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft Greg Oden, and Oden’s college teammate Mike Conley. “I think we have really good chance at winning district and playing well at state, we have a lot of kids dedicated to playing basketball,” Long said. Long has already made new friends with players on the basketball team, including fellow senior Andrew Lyle. “All the people I have met in Hastings seem really cool,” Long said. “Andrew has shown me where everyone hangs out and what people do for fun here,” he said. Long hopes to have a great school year. “I hope to achieve a lot this year at Hastings High, obviously the number one thing to do is graduate,” he said. “Then I would like to improve as a person, a basketball player and a student, also I hope to go to college.” So when walking the halls or watching a basketball game keep an eye out for Amadeus Long, but don’t say anything about him being short. “People underestimate me because of my size and why wouldn’t they, everyone is taller than me, but once they see me play they understand.”
