Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Parsons vs. Byrd

http://my.highschooljournalism.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/3240/articleid/300221/unsportsmanlike_conduct_parsons_vs_byrd.aspx

By Aaron Parsons and Patrick Byrd

Patrick Byrd: In the upcoming game with the New York Giants vs. the New Orleans Saints, I think that Drew Brees is going to pass all over the Giants’ defense, which is ranked 22nd in the league when it comes to passing. Aaron Parsons: The game features, Osi Umeniorya and Justin Tuck, may be the two best pass rushers in the NFL. They will be in the face of Brees all game, similar to the way the Jets played him. Byrd: When they played against the Jets, they ended up losing 24-10, similar to what the outcome will be next Sunday. Parsons: The Saints' offense only managed to score 10 of those 24 points. The other 14 points came from mistakes from a rookie quarterback who had four turnovers. The Giants' leader, Eli Manning, left last week's game with a perfect passer rating. I wouldn’t expect anywhere close to four turnovers for a well disciplined Tom Coughlin team. Byrd: The only reason Manning left the game with a perfect passing rating is because he went out at halftime, and the Giants were playing the Oakland Raiders, arguably the worst team in the NFL. Parsons: I would have to agree with you if it wasn’t for the fact that he has had over a 100 passer rating every game. That’s second in the NFL. He’s also second in passing touchdowns, and if it wasn’t for a bye week, would be in the top 10 in passing yards as well. The rushing attack is also hitting on all cylinders as Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw have played really well the whole season. Byrd: When the Saints played the Eagles, Brees threw for 311 yards with a 73.5 percent pass rating. The Saints’ defense is ranked first in the NFL and will shut down Bradshaw and Jacobs. Parsons: He did have a good game against the Eagles, but that’s why they are second in the NFC East, and the Giants are first. They are the better team, hands down. The quarterbacks are closer, but the Giants' running backs are far better; they have a deeper receiving core and the defense is better. To me, it’s obvious the Giants are destined for another Super Bowl run. Maybe an all New York Super Bowl is on the horizon. Byrd: If the passing game is so much better in New York than in New Orleans, then explain why the Saints are ranked fifth in the NFL and the Giants are ranked 22nd. You’re right about the quarterbacks being close. Manning is second in the NFL, and Brees is third. It should be a close game, but I say the Saints take it home 21-10. Parsons: The reason is the style of offenses. The Giants value ball control and power running, and the Saints try to score every 30 seconds. The score will be Giants, 23-14.
