By Ted Timberlake

With a 6-5 record and three games left in the season, all against teams that they have already defeated, the boys tennis team has a chance of finishing the season with their best record since the 2000 season. The team had a big win against Langley on March 17, narrowly defeating the Saxons 5-4. The match came down to the first seed doubles match, where juniors Arup Das and Daniel Chao defeated their Langley opponents, winning the match for the team. In their most recent match on Wednesday, the team won every single individual and doubles match, defeating Marshall 9-0. Coach Seth DeRose attributes much of the team’s success to the return of Das as the number one seed, which has allowed all the other players to play in their normal positions. Das played for the team his freshman year, but left to attend the Hilton Tennis Academy the following year, missing his sophomore season. “Arup has helped big time,” senior Imran Nayeem said. “We have also won some key doubles matches because our doubles teams have been strong.” DeRose was also quick to attribute the team’s play as a whole for their success this season. “This year everyone knows their role on the team,” DeRose said. “A lot of guys have stepped up their games and have been playing very well.” With the district tournament less than two weeks away, DeRose said that he would like the team to work on putting shots away and forcing opponents to earn every point by limiting double faults and unforced errors.
