The League finals meet culminates the season long competition between Rocklin, Nevada Union, Woodcreek, Granite Bay, Roseville and Del Oro. The varsity men’s team preserved their three-year streak with a 152 point victory, compared to Del Oro, their closest competitor’s 97.5. The junior varsity boy’s fell to Del Oro , 122-111, but their undefeated record in league allowed them to tie for first place in the SFL, though the championship trophy will stay in Del Oro’s possession because they won the League meet. Rocklin’s varsity women edged out Granite Bay for second place, by a one point margin of 77-76, however, Del Oro won the Women’s division with a resounding 137 point victory. Junior Varsity girls also fell to Del Oro, 174-131, and came away with second place. In individual performances, Rocklin had a huge number of League Champions. Senior Michael Bullard broke his previous personal best, and school record, of 11.01s in the 100m with a 10.82s dash. The times in the varsity men’s 100m dash were so fast that all nine competitors (including Taylor Ashby, senior, 2nd place and Walter Finney, Senior, 4th place) will move on to the next round of competition: the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II meet at Bella Vista High School. Taylor Ashby, senior, was the varisty men’s 200m dash champion with a personal best of 22.17s. Senior Cody Fikes was both the league champion in the 800m and the 1600m, setting a personal best of 4:26.53 in the 1600m. Andre Jones, Senior, who finished 2nd place in league, set a new school record at 39.29s in the 300m hurdles. The Varsity Men’s 4x100 team were league champions, with a time of 42.07s, which breaks the school record. Justin Ellerbee and Teddy Flanagan received first and second place in pole vault, respectively, with heights of 12 feet 10 inches. Jon Thomits, sophomore, was the JV Boy’s Champion in the 100m dash with a personal best of 11.54s, and the 200m dash, with a personal best of 23.78s. Freshman Leilah Lockett walked away with the JV girls championship title in both the 100m and 200m dashes. Sophomore Heidi Greenwood and Freshman Sabrina Wilson placed first and second respectively in the JV girls 3200m. Finally, Sophomore Leah Carter won varsity women’s high jump with a jump of 5 feet 5 inches. Carter, with a May 7 jump of 5-8 inches, is currently tied as state leader in varsity women’s high jump. Rocklin will send 27 athletes as either competitors or alternates to the Division 2-3 Section Meet at Bella Vista High School on May 18th and 20th to compete for Sac-Joaquin Division Championships and berths to the Sac-Joaquin Masters meet at Sacramento City College’s Hughes Stadium on May 26th and 27th. Congratulations to all Track athletes for your efforts this season.
