Who will be the next ASB president?: Q&A with candidates

http://my.highschooljournalism.org/schools/newspaper/tabid/100/view/frontpage/schoolid/258/articleid/127271/who_will_be_the_next_asb_president_qa_with_candidates.aspx

By Mallory Valenzuela

With ASB elections underway, the school populous seems to be buzzing about the candidates running for elected positions. At extended lunch on Thursday during Sadies Week, students will have the opportunity to vote and will only be required to bring their ID card to the ballot tables. According to current ASB President Katie Schafer, “There are no requirements to become a candidate. If you are running for cabinet, you must be an upperclassman and be in ASB for one year.” As one of the larger races with three Juniors running, the race for ASB President looks to be stimulating and unpredictable. Candidates Sam Jaquish, Annie Jasinski, and Chase Wheeler come to the consensus that they all feel nervous and edgy about the election. Q & A with the 2007-2008 ASB President Candidates: 1. Describe yourself in three words. (SJ) Qualified, committed, and diligent (AJ) Determined, passionate, and loyal (CW) Hardworking, friendly, and energetic 2. Why did you run? Why did you choose this position? (SJ) I ran because I am passionate about improving the school. ASB President allows me to make a difference. (AJ) I believe I am a great leader and can lead the school with passion and pride. (CW) Because I want to make all the students in high school experience better, and the ASB President oversees all activities and I want to make a difference. 3. What positions have you held in ASB? (SJ) 2005: Class President 2006: Class President 2007: Sergeant at Arms (AJ) 2006: Sophomore Class Representative 2007: Publicity (CW) 2007: Class President 4. What are some of your goals, and what do you want to improve at Rocklin High School? (SJ) I feel like the school is a lot less personal than it used to be. I want all incoming freshmen to have the amazing start that I had. (AJ) I want all students to feel important and feel a part of RHS. From small clubs to football, all organizations should be given respect. (CW) I want to bring more spirit to the campus by painting like the P.E. lockers because it is really not spirited in certain places. I also want to make things more comfortable like adding some smaller steps to the big amphitheater steps. 5. Why should you win? (SJ) I should win because I have the experience and commitment of exceeding all the criteria of the position. (AJ) I am an overall good leader. I want to work with the entire school body and have them enjoy it more. (CW) Because if I were elected, I would do my best to make this year the best and work hard to make everyone’s high school experience the best.
